Writing Assessments

Our Writing Assessments are designed to take a deep dive into a child’s creative writing abilities, within an examination environment. The paper will explore various aspects of writing skills that will help the child practice and enhance their written work – and ultimately be far better equipped for the written component of the exam. 

What to expect

Children will be thoroughly tested on their inference skills, ability to re-write and improve texts, creative writing e.g. narrative writing, object description, instructional writing etc.

This is a 1 hour centre-based exam which will run in the following format : 

  • 10 minutes registration
  • 30 minutes Writing Skills 
  • 20 minutes Creative Writing

This assessment covers Henrietta Barnet, Kent Grammar Schools, Chelmsford County High School/ CSSE 

Results

A scanned copy of your child’s marked assessment will be sent to your email within 5 working days. Alongside this, you will receive a detailed report scrutinising their written responses. 

The report will aim to cover : 

  • What they have done well across multiple assessment criteria
  • Practical ways in which to improve their responses 
  • A model answer to be able to compare and improve

 Location

The exam will take place in one of two locations : 

  • Ilford Cardinal Heenan Centre 
  • Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford
